This still persists, we in the west at least fight against and recognize the potential for state controlled media to be used for propaganda. Russia didn’t get the same innoculation because of the persistence of state controlled media in the USSR, and they’re more susceptible to it. In the US, we still get propaganda, but it’s had to evolve, so you have things like Sinclair media owning a bunch of seemingly independent channels because people wouldn’t trust a monolithic channel. You have your local Fox channels. That sort of thing. But it does take some more work.
