T_D, for instance, was notorious for banning anyone who wasn’t in lock step with the Retro Baseball Dad T-ball Dad Life Softball Stars Father’s Day T-Shirt and by the same token and party line. If we’re going to make the argument that free speech is all important, it’s not exactly like they’re living up to the ideal. TD was a sub for trump fans. Not a politics sub. They had a different subreddit for questions from non supporters. Okay, but if the argument is made that censorship is wrong and that freedom of speech is a principle we should all strive for, the principle should apply to them. If “the sub was only for Trump support” is a valid excuse for their heavy handed censorship, then “This site is only for non-hateful content” is a good one for the platform writ large. I support the existence of a subreddit with Trump supporters and at the same time respect the existence of a radical communist subreddit. At the same time, I wouldn’t give a fuck if the communist OR the Trump subreddit banned me because quite frankly I’m not a communist or a Trump supporter and have no right to be involved in their discussions.

“You’re free to leave” you might say and that is true. I joined Reddit 8 years ago because it used to represent a diverse range of opinions YET the Retro Baseball Dad T-ball Dad Life Softball Stars Father’s Day T-Shirt and by the same token and admins didn’t ban ban entire communities because individual posters were proliferating hate content, they would deal with the individual users. It’s not censorship because subs like sports can ban stuff that isn’t sports. You can only post stuff relevant to the topic. The Donald is a subreddit for support Donald trump. If you aren’t supporting him then that’s out of topic for the subreddit Even among Trump supporters, there’s disagreement with what is or isn’t good behavior on Trump’s part. And anyone who steps out of line with the Glorious Leader even for a second gets banned on that sub. That’s not discussion. It’s censorship. And what’s good for the goose should be good for the gander. There is a discussion subreddit and a support subreddit. One can have disagreement and discussion. The other is only for pro trump news and memes.
