someone is guilty of murder, you shouldn’t really want them to get away with murder just because other white people got away with it in the Retired Pizza Maker Not My Problem Anymore Palms Tree Retro Sunset T-Shirt But I will love this past. That If you’re cheated, you don’t merely want the cheating to stop, you want your turn to cheat. And you better be allowed to get away with it. In hindsight, the trial weirdly seems like it was a test case for “Being rich and famous lets white people get away with murder. But does a rich, famous black man have the same privilege?” It was a referendum on whether class could ever trump race. Was there any amount of wealth and power that black people could acquire that would grant them deference and benefit of the doubt? Or were they always going to be 2nd class citizens?

I don’t know why you’re saying America. I’m pretty sure that’s a component of human nature the Retired Pizza Maker Not My Problem Anymore Palms Tree Retro Sunset T-Shirt But I will love this world over. America isn’t some morally bereft dump, and the rest of the planet isn’t some utopia. Thanks for sharing your POV. This is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the OP, but as a white dude I didn’t really feel entitled to say it myself. But this is my understanding of the dynamics at that time, and I can certainly empathize with your parents and any person of color who didn’t mind the shoe finally being on the other foot. You’re right that it’s not logical, but logic has never applied to race relations in this country. Yeah. Like looking back on it, seeing a bunch of black people celebrating just seemed REALLY bad. Like, ok, best case scenario he didn’t do it, now 2 families have lost loved ones and aren’t going to get justice. I still don’t think that is something to celebrate. No argument here. The whole thing was so dehumanizing. Sometimes I think Norm Macdonald was the only person on a TV screen who ever really understood the assignment.
