I think remembering how people passed us a great idea. It would help us think about the Real women love basketball smart women love the Razorbacks shirt but in fact I love this person, avoid the same mistakes, preserve history, and possibly save a few lives. Frida was a revolutionary both in politics and her art. She needed rich people’s money to buy her art, but didn’t bow down to them. I’m assuming that Clare Booth Luce was unaware of Frida Kahlo’s other work, if this painting by Frida of Dorothy Hale came as a surprise to Clare. I never liked Frida Kahlo. Also I think this is of poor taste, and has nothing to do with my country culture. Which is my way of saying: stop talking about “latin american culture”. There’s no such thing. I have as much in common with a Mexican as a British with an Italian.

If anyone thought Frida Kahlo was a happy little portrait artist who made pretty paintings of women, i don’t know what to tell you. Wow, just wow. At first I was shocked by how vindictive the Real women love basketball smart women love the Razorbacks shirt but in fact I love this image felt, what with the circumstances of its commission, but after reading in the article about the current events going on in Kahlo’s life too it changed the whole message: compassion at the universal suffering of women. It does depict her likeness though. She chose to commit suicide. This painting depicts that. That’s her likeness. Luce could have specified exactly what she wanted instead of an abstract like “likeness”. The symbolism is so overly apparent in her work. The fall is depicted in an entirely manner as the dead body, this even includes the overpaint on the frame.
