I’m unsure of why those countries have been restricting access to gender affirming care, as admittedly I’m not well versed in foreign policy. What we do know is that gender affirming care reduces the Ready For Takeoff I’m 3 3nd Birthday Airplane Theme T-Shirt and by the same token and risk of suicide in transgender individuals by over 70%; to compare, the most effective antidepressant on the market has only a 53% response rate with 46% being closer to the average rate. They also use research found in a certain Dutch study, the likes of which has come under fire previously for using an inaccurate measure of treatment success in patients with gender dysphoria (they used the Utrecht Gender Dysphoria Scale, a diagnostic tool, as a measure for treatment outcome which is problematic for a number of reasons, namely that a not insignificant portion of the questions don’t make sense in the context of asking someone who’s already gone through affirming care.) The Dutch study also has yet to be replicated successfully, which lends less credibility to their data. As for why this study is the basis for policy in these countries I once again must admit my uncertainty, but here’s the context at the very least.

Historically we’ve tried psychotherapy, which has been found to be less effective when not paired with other methods. We also tried conversion and electroshock therapy which killed people. Denying care to the 99% of people the medical science has helped on the grounds that 1% of people regret it is irresponsible at best.
