If this were really a molecular printer, then why settle for coffee and tea when you could just print some morphine and cocaine? The article hints at what’s probably behind this, because it mentions you need cartridges for things like sugar and alcohol (which you wouldn’t need, if you could synthesize molecules). It’s an expensive drink mixer, which is pretty dumb. Lots of bad info and assumptions in this thread. If anyone is really curious I recommend listening this interview with the billionaire founder of this idea, who’s main goal is to reduce carbon footprint, not make money. Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn’t touch this until it had been independently investigated to find exactly what it’s doing, what is in the cartridges.

You can get close, but it’s always off. Whisky is water, ethanol, and some other chemical compounds that give it flavor. This thing is supposed to contain all those chemical compounds and dispense them in precisely the right amounts to replicate wine, whisky, coffee, apple juice, etc. How on earth can it replicate stuff that is so specific? I think it would be more like “generic whisky flavor 2” type of thing.
