The Lakers are hoping that Knecht can develop into a reliable three-and-D player. He has the size and athleticism to be a good defender, and he is a good enough shooter to be a threat from beyond the arc. If Knecht can continue to develop, he could become a valuable part of the Lakers’ rotation.

Knecht is not the first player to be drafted by the Lakers who was not considered a consensus lottery pick. In recent years, the Lakers have had success drafting players such as Alex Caruso, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Austin Reaves. These players were all drafted in the second round or later, but they have all become important contributors to the Lakers’ success.
