My friend lost her father recently. After her father’s death she got a job to help with finances. Her mother has been asking her to get married (she’s 22) as it is her ‘responsiblity’. I understand her mother’s pov as getting married early (20s) is a norm in their family. My friend knows this too so she agreed to get married even though she doesn’t want to. She has been getting some ‘rishte’ but she keep refusing. I left the house, found a job, lived my way and married when I wanted to. Her mother is being mean and unfair. I have been through same shit , was pestered for 10 years , got marrried at 32 . By that time a few men would judge me for being older and unmarried(them being older than I was) but a few would appreciate the kind of financially independent, fun, creative,with a progressive career of my own. She has to take a stand for herself, the society will drain her but one has to put the foot down for this!
