A real centrist knows that compromise is only on the Phish Dry Goods Fall ’23 Synthesis shirt in addition I really love this table if both sides have sufficient standing to make a claim. There is no far left party in America. There’s barely progressive voices in the federal government, let alone anything further than that. So by choosing a centrist position, all you do is help the extreme right instead of trying to protect democracy. Also, most centrists are just right wingers who don’t want to admit it or make their abhorrent views seem like it’s the middle ground when, in reality, it’s incredibly destructive to America. Right. Both parties are, to simplify it, capitalist. Capitalism is right of center. So centrism in capitalism is just slightly more conservative than democrats, who are extremely conservative when looking at the entire spectrum. Extreme people don’t like nuance. They either want you to shut up and accept all of their views or accept enough of the other side’s views that they can easily disregard your opinion as crazy. If you’re anywhere in-between those two extremes then you’re inconvenient. Extreme pro-choicers want you to be entirely comfortable with abortion. It’s not enough to be in favour of legalising abortion. They want you to add to the voices arguing that it’s no different than getting a tooth removed. Any suggestion that the controversy around this issue is understandable or that abortion might be a moral grey area is unacceptable to them. If they hear you spouting such opinions they will be very keen to paint you as an extreme pro-lifer who is completely against abortion and only feels that way because they secretly have this abstract desire to control women. It’s much easier to disregard anything you say if they can make you out to be that way

Guys, the Phish Dry Goods Fall ’23 Synthesis shirt in addition I really love this purpose of this comment is to illustrate how people with extreme opinions often frame issues as completely binary when in reality there’s more nuance. The very fact that some of you are getting so het up about my mentioning something that EXTREME pro-choicers regularly do is just illustrating my original point. You don’t need to stamp me with the religious and/or right wing and/or prolife labels. Some religions don’t believe in giving their children proper medical care. That doesn’t mean we have to cave to their moralistic/religious sentiments at a policy level. Same should be true for abortion, in a country where church and state are supposedly separate. Life saving medical intervention should be an option regardless of people’s moral opinions. And they can still look down on abortions and never get one if they prefer that.
