Recruiters need to fill their kpis and companies need to signal growth to investors. 95%(guestimation) of Jobs are fake posts for this reason. The only KPI a recruiter has is how many jobs they fill. Why would they waste time calling you for fake positions? A lot of systems (I support some of these these systems) track calls made and candidates interviewed. The idea is, is that even though there is no hiring, they want to keep a pool of applicants available for when funding allows them to hire. It’s a losing game for all of us. When there’s no oversight for it people are going to abuse it. It’s no different than wage transparency, most companies still don’t post the salary and if they do the range is so ridiculous they can basically interview people, tell them the range is where it should be and then pay them 50% less than they were lead to believe. I think ranges should be illegal, takes the nonsense guesswork out of things. If companies want to pay more than the range fine but don’t give people a $30-$100k (or whatever) range knowing damn well you’re only paying them $30k. Most of us wouldn’t interview knowing it actually starts at $30k and the employers know this so it’s bait and switch.
