I once had an appointment to visit a business, the office was in his (very large, very lovely) home. He offered coffee and said “only Nescafé instant, I’m afraid” (presumably, I thought, because it wasn’t a ‘proper’ coffee, I wasn’t bothered, it’s what I drank at home). The coffee came and it was clearly a cheap supermarket own brand type coffee. Obvs, I didn’t comment but I’ve always thought it an odd thing for him to lie about. She calls all fabric softener Comfort, so i’ll sometimes get a shopping list that includes “Fairy Comfort” instead of “Fairy softener”. & when Costco only has actual Comfort instead of Fairy, I end up texting something like “they’ve only got Comfort Comfort instead of Fairy Comfort, do you want that instead?” Yes, like washing up liquid is always fairy and every vacuum cleaner is a hoover! Not thought of that as, tbh, everyone I know would always make instant coffee unless we were being ‘posh’!!
