So I’ve been hosting around five years, only around 15-20 guests a year (which allows flexible check-in times) with max 5 days per stay, from a city center-apartment that’s cheaper than hotels but not motels. Lately I’ve been thinking about the Peel Out Just Love It When Guys Peel Out The Spirit of the ’60s Graffiti Movie T-Shirt and I love this shift in norms since I started in regards to the kinds of questions as well as the number I get asked. “How do you get to xyz?”, “Can you research where I can find this very particular item?”, “Can you rent bikes for us?” etc. Now, I have a new Lonely Planet guide they can take with them and a 7-page document with my own recs. I’m happy to spend some time answering questions when they get here, but eight questions per day on a weekday is a bit much. I try to be shorten responses or explain that I’m unavailable at certain times but it’s hard to just ignore people altogether.

My question is… am I just out of touch? I’ve never in my life been that demanding at a hotel. I honestly find it incredibly rude – I’m not a live-in tour guide – but I’ve read about hosts on here who’ll drive their guests to and from the Peel Out Just Love It When Guys Peel Out The Spirit of the ’60s Graffiti Movie T-Shirt and I love this train station or w/e. Are these normal expectations to have when you’re in the hospitality business?I can say as a guest, if there was a way for me to have never spoken to my host for any reason ever, I would gladly select that option. It actually irks me when hosts start sending lists of places to go and things to see. Reddit would probably hate me. I love asking for suggestions. I’m not expecting a tour guide or anything, but I can be nice to get suggestions from a local. Especially when I’m in a foreign country. Just hard to tell what’s legit or not on the internet. I wouldn’t expect it, or get upset if they weren’t willing to. But it is definitely a perk and will leave more overall happy with the experience and willing to write a review.
