I know alot of parents that say when kid hits 18 they need to either be A) full time student (not a class a semester) or B) have a job. Nobody wants there kids just sitting around doing nothing. Kudos to your parents. They did it right. My parents felt like I was too much of a rebel and wanted me out. I was gone by 16.5 years old. By then, I was drinking and doing drugs, and my parents decided it was better they didn’t have to deal with my rebellious phase, I guess. People who were kicked out at 18 were probably problem kids. Their parents are probably struggling to make ends meet while supporting an entitled kid who refuses to do chores, go to school, or find a job. This younger generation just wants to play video games and/or be social media influencers. Getting kicked out is their wake up call. If they shape up, I’m sure their parents would welcome them back home. It’s just a super old concept, most people have parents or grandparents where this Pee-wee’s Magic A Key to Happiness. T-Shirt and by the same token and was a normal thing. Why? Because it was much easier to sustain yourself at that age without your parents, getting out and finding good work.

Times have drastically changed but mindsets don’t easily follow suit. “I got kicked out at 18 and I was fine! I’m going to do it to my kid! It’s the Pee-wee’s Magic A Key to Happiness. T-Shirt and by the same token and way!” Yet literally everything in the world has changed to such an unrecognised degree. It’s the other way around. When you turn 18 you want independence and to set out and start a life. And to party. Not gonna lie. I was never kicked out. I could go back right now at 35 years old with a husband and baby in tow and my parents would welcome me with open arms. I could literally live with my parents until the end of time and they wouldn’t complain. Tbh it was rare if I had a friend who’s parents kicked them out at 18. Now if they’re disrespectful to their parents then that is the reason why. But I get along with my parents so I’m welcome anytime. I could just pop up with a suitcase like, mom I’m Moving in and she would say “yay! Here’s a room!” I am from the US. Kicked out at 16. Finished high school living with a friend and working nights to pay rent. Graduated and leased to own my first home. I’m 31 now and it was probably the best thing that happened to me. Made me grow up and taught me responsibility. Not easy though and I experienced a lot of poverty before I learned my trade and started my own low voltage company after 12 years of apprenticeship and licensing work.
