People are weird. It’s like they think that parenting stops at 18. You either stop being a parent when your kids are dead or you’re dead. I honestly don’t understand how people can justify throwing someone out especially in this economy. I know that if I was thrown out at 18 today, I would probably have to move in with three to four other roommates. I mean I’m doing that now but at least we all four have capital saved to put a sizable down payment on a house. America is about more about “Independence” than alot of countries. We teach them how to do stuff on “Their own” so that when they are “An adult” we don’t have to feel bad when they fail. Not all parents kicked their kids out at 18. Growing up in the Peanuts Just a girl who love fall and BYU Cougars shirt but in fact I love this 80s, I had many friends who couldn’t wait to leave home and have their own place at 18. I’m in the US, and I have 4 young children. The economy sucks and is getting worse every year. I have no idea how my kids are going to move out and fend for themselves. I’m expecting them to live at home until they can afford to move out. No way am I ever kicking my babies out. Life is hard. Life is harder when you don’t have supportive parents. I want to be a supportive parent.

Idk. I see this mostly from white Americans. I’m Mexican so we tend to stick together (grandparents, parents, kids/ siblings) we all pretty much live together. It’s mostly the Peanuts Just a girl who love fall and BYU Cougars shirt but in fact I love this older generation that have this idea that once you are grown you have to make your own way. Most of them are well established or established enough that they don’t have to worry about basics like rent, food, or utilities and think that an 18 year old will be able to support themselves with their job like they were able to do 30/ 40 years ago when things were much cheaper. They either don’t care about their kids or can’t see that times have changed and what was possible back in the day isn’t now. I didn’t realize this was even an American stereotype. I’m American, I went to college at 18 but over the years I moved in and out of their house and I know quite a few others who stayed with their folks like OP.
