I’m very glad my parents never did this. OMG this flashed me right back to my childhood dinner table This situation is most likely a large contributor to my disordered eating as an adult. I can still eat huge amounts of food, and I feel ashamed every time, especially in front of other people. This daily battle makes me feel disgusted w/myself every day. I have to portion control myself for every single piece of food that passes my lips. When I was young my narcissistic mom thought that I was underweight. Old photos show that I was a little lanky but not underweight! She took me to a doctor and a therapist and in the end started making me eat more. When she couldn’t order me to eat more she bribed me with toys and books for finishing my plate.

That’s abuse. I mean I hated ham as a kid and was required to eat most of it but was never given a ridiculous portion of it and was never berated or beaten over it. If you see that happening, say something. It’s not meant to help them. It’s a control issue. My mother was never like this. I could eat as much or as little as I wanted. No yelling, no hitting, no belittling, no force feeding. It’s not my body. They get to decide how much and of what they will be eating It’s a bad habit that gets all the attention. Then, introduce new foods in a gradual manner, and in small amounts until they get used to it – at which time you can make it a part of the normal rotation.
