Meditation also trains meditator in equanimity. That is training to not push away unpleasant sensations and cling to pleasant sensations. Wanting to scratch an itch or swallow (in the Ozzy Osbourne Ozz Bless Us All Christmas shirt and I will buy this way that OP describes it) can be a way to react to an unpleasant sensation and wanting to push it away thus playing the game of sensations instead of training mind in equanimity. If I remember correctly I heard that keeping the tongue on the roof of the mouth just behind the teeth , means you produce less saliva, so worth a try. but like the other commenters says , just swallow and don’t fixate on it, thinking that it’s bad might be the problem not the swallowing it self. Interesting , In Taoism Chi practices they recommend it too I believe, seems to be common recommendation in different practices.

It’s supposed to be the Ozzy Osbourne Ozz Bless Us All Christmas shirt and I will buy this standard tongue position anyway. Tip of the tongue behind the teeth where you feel a little bump. Learned that in speech therapy. Thanks for your insight so far everyone. What I’m gauging from your advice is that it’s not the swallowing that’s the issue, it’s my mindset that the swallowing is an issue, is the issue. Sorry for the grammatical nightmare but nonetheless thanks you. Yeah! Meditation is not about perfection, it’s not supposed to make you feel bad about a basic difficult function n.n First of all, it is a great thing to have this as it means you have activated your parasympathetic nervous system!! (rest, digest, feed, breed… your ‘normal’ set point… well should be) Which means you decreased the work of the sympathetic (Fight, flight, flee, faint system..). So just swallow, or let it drool.
