“oh my god, the Original st Patrick’s day Lucky you shirt and I will buy this neighbours were playing their stupid Umdluah music all effing day. I couldn’t even have the windows open” – my dad’s wife bitching about our neighbours who’re from Jordan are playing music from their home country. “yknow the Philippines were a lot better back when they were an American colony. The kept in line” – said father about a random news story about how some kid raised money for a big trip by saving empty beer and soda cans Y’all get the idea. Note that my father also considers “Boomer” to be an insult. This is a man destined to die alone and miserable after he’s pushed away everyone who has ever cared about him Not my parrents, but people their age. They think respect comes with age or rank, I disagree. Respect is not a gift, it’s earned. However, everyone needs to be approached with a base level of respect. There are three reasons for doing this. 1. Strangers haven’t had the time to earn your respect, they deserve the benifit of the doubt. 2. You have to earn a strangers respect before you can expect it. You do this by being respectful to strangers. 3. Others of value will base their respect on how you treat strangers.

Karens of any age or gender need to be put back in their place by society so their behavior can be corrected. Anyone throwing a tantrum should be handled like a toddler, or society stops functioning. Being president, or the Original st Patrick’s day Lucky you shirt and I will buy this boss, or old aren’t excuses for socially unexceptable behaviors or to be blindly respected. That it’s a woman’s job to take care of the house, that it’s okay for men to lust after barely 18 year olds, boys will be boys, and more bs in that category. Mine is financial – both of my grandparents were severely impacted by the Great Depression (like lost their homes and were out on the street bad) – and my parents still carry that trauma. Growing up, they never spent ANY money in case the worst happened and we needed to support ourselves for years without a job. It was so bad, if a random person knew how I was raised, they probably would have thought I was below the poverty level despite my parents both being engineers. Now that I’m on my own, I still feel it and panic whenever I spend money on things, but I’ve been working on it. My parents really disagree with how much I’m spending on a wedding (a very reasonable amount that has been well budgeted) because in their eyes you should be saving every penny. It’s crazy.
