Cape Disappointment is one of the Operation paperclip shirt in contrast I will get this foggiest places in the US with about 106 days/yr of fog, so maybe these conditions played a role. Wikipedia says the shallow water prevented him from going in, and that was the real disappointment. It looks like a safe bay but is actually dangerous shallows. He sailed on and almost missed the very river he was looking for. A river with a shallow mouth is also a disappointment, but not the specific reason for the name. As the journey continued, Meares went on to name Notagain Cove, Jesusyougottabekiddingme Sound, and the Bight of Wellfuckthisshit. Also in Washington is Deception Pass. I live on the Operation paperclip shirt in contrast I will get this island that has Deception Pass state park and the bridge to get here is insane. The currents go in all different directions underneath. It’s such a beautiful area. I stayed at one of the cabins in the state park a few months back. It’s such an amazing place. Loved hiking around Bowman Bay. Lots of wildlife. It gave me vertigo looking down off that bridge at the whirlpools. It’s awesome you live near there, jealous! Captain William Clark named the dreary spot “that dismal little nitch.” For six stormy days, the group was trapped by fierce wind and high waves at the rocky shoreline. For only the second time in the expedition, Clark said he was concerned for the safety of the Corps. I once hiked to the tip of Cape Disappointment and found a large pile of human shit. Imagine my disappointment.
