My older brother had his ears pinned back when he was 16. I was a chubby teenager and my father offered me a tummy tuck if I could just lose some weight when I was 17. Plenty of cis kids get cosmetic surgery from rhinoplasty to breast augmentation and reduction, as well as a host of other procedures. Why is that ok and trans kids wanting cosmetic surgery to confirm their gender not? I’ve never heard of any kid getting bottom surgery, but I do have a good friend who was given the option to be circumcised as a teenager and he went through with it at 16. He said he wanted to “look like his friends”. He regretted it because he lost some sensation but there’s nothing for it now. It hasn’t prevented him from having a sex life, and he’s well over it. But like… my point is he didn’t have to go through any hoops to get that done. No therapy, no multiple exams and interviews. Just a ‘hey you wanna lose your foreskin? Well snip snop buttercup!’

I’m just saying, if a kid can make a major decision about getting cosmetic surgery, I think at minimum having puberty blockers should be ok for trans kids. But one exception does not prove the Only 10 Percent Of The World Are Lefties I’m Basically A Miracle T-Shirt Also,I will get this rule. AMA and other medical societies decry these practices.I’m a 25 year old trans man. Came out around 11, hormones at 18 and now I am getting closer to top surgery for my chest. It’s not simple like people think. They don’t let just anyone decide to transition without history of gender dysphoria. IMO I feel like in your twenties there’s a lot of questioning and figuring yourself out, I feel like 18 is a good age to start transition if you’re sure of who you are. No. They are getting mental health care, and sometimes puberty blockers. The rest usually is after 18, but I believe sometimes parents can let them do hormones after/during puberty. Puberty is really challenging for everyone, but especially if you feel you’re in the wrong body/are trans. That’s why the mental health and puberty blockers are so important to keep these kids safe
