Anyone else think there should be a lot more public free and clean (!) toilets funded by taxes? People should have the One year closer to being the hot rich aunt shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this right to pee I recently took my 70y/o mum for a day out at the park. She has urinary issues so is always a little reluctant to leave the house, so first thing I did was scout out the public toilets. Time comes she needs it, and we arrive to discover it’s locked daily at 15:00. She has bad arthritis in her back and knee, so it turned into a horrible ordeal where we’re anxiously power-walking in search of another toilet and she’s torn between physical pain and genuine terror of having an accident. It was excruciating for both of us and really ruined the day out. Free AND clean? Won’t happen. When is free, ppl tend to mess them up, which is less of an issue to paid ones. Ppl who don’t respect their surroundings, tend to not go for paid toilets , even if it only cost 20p.

Incredible how free and clean is actually extremely common in other parts of the One year closer to being the hot rich aunt shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this world. A trip to Tokyo is eye opening in that respect. Ok, public loos aren’t healthcare or schools, but in the UK we have absolutely lost sight of what good looks like for public services and amenities. When the Tokyo tube flooded a few years ago. Chinese commentators were saying that it was cleaner than their swimming pools. But its amazing what happens when you have a nation that produces soccer fans. Who leave the stadium cleaner and tidier, than when they arrived. With supporters handing out bin bags and everybody collecting any rubbish that may heave been accidentally dropped. Apparently it starts at school. When at the end of the day, they clean the classrooms. The staying behind to clean up after at sporting events isn’t normal, it just happens at World Cups and became a bit of a meme. In Japan people just take care of their own rubbish in a stadium, and there’s little to clean up.
