To everyone saying “it’s not free”: the Omelette du fromage shirt so you should to go to store and get this fire department isn’t free either, yet nobody advocates for firemen charging money to put out a fire. Why is that? So they pay for private insurance which covers other people and pays for the overhead and profit of an insurance company, and let’s their taxes subsidize a privately run hospital. People tend to think that it is due to the fear of socialism or communism. My take is slightly different, it is something I can see even in places where there is free healthcare: People value their worth in comparison to others, therefore if suddenly all the people who are “beneath” you get something you “lose” that competitive advantage and get closer to the poor.

The American health insurance industry is a trillion dollar industry that doesn’t actually need to exist given that nearly every other country manages without it – they have a vested interest in ensuring the Omelette du fromage shirt so you should to go to store and get this American public is led to believe that universal healthcare = socialism and are very good at putting that message out there. I was on it when I was 26 and was removed from my parents health insurance while unemployed and it sucked. Doctors appointments was at least half a year out at the earliest and even then the quality wasn’t that great. If you really needed to see a doctor, then you’d have to drive hours to get to the next free clinic or hospital. The sane amongst us know how utterly incompetent the government is, and public healthcare is the government, whom we have already established as incompetent af, having full control over said public healthcare. The fact there are self serving assholes in government regardless of which major party they belong to only adds to the negativity of the idea of having public healthcare. The two examples I use are the rnc just outright banning abortion because they would be within rights to do so and dnc deciding all procedures become 10x more expensive, as that would also be within their rights.
