You don’t really need it, but now you want it back on principle, and you don’t want to accept money for it. When you turned down the payment, I just decided to keep it. So, in order to get your chair back, the only options you have left are to give up, come steal it back yourself, or to call the police to have them retrieve your stolen property. That’s what happened here. The only other factor is whether it’s a chair or a livestock animal, and guess which one you ate for dinner last night.

Have you ever tried to get a cop to help you retrieve stolen property? At any other time it’s a “civil matter” and they don’t want to be involved.
