I got #27 in the Okarche Baseball 2023 State Tournament shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this first Draft Lottery (early December 1969) and did a lot of things to try to avoid going in. I ended up enlisting for 3 years in order to get 93K20 — Enroute ATC (Air Traffic Control) — because there were no slots in Nam for that and 4 other MOSs (Military Occupational Specialty, i.e. your job), all of which were sufficiently specialized they couldn’t post you someplace where they couldn’t use you. I got my draft notice while I was in-processing for Basic Training at Ft. Polk, LA. I wrote all sorts of mean, nasty, ugly things on it and sent it back to my draft board. I mean, what were they going to do to me? Draft me? 🙂 Fun Side Note: One of my other favorite tunes by Arlo is The City of New Orleans. The Army was very nice about transportation, since I was the only person from that area going to that training station, and I got to ride The City of New Orleans from Chicago to Shreveport, LA, in a private sleeper compartment. Things went downhill from there. 🙁 No worries! I only know because I’ve heard the live version where Arlo explains how Steve Goodman played the song to him in a bar (after buying Arlo a beer, of course, lol) and I wanted to pass the knowledge along.

Don’t worry. As a teen, I had a glorious Hawaiian shirt and Jimmy Buffett phase (ok still do, not gonna lie). But I heard his cover of “brown eyed girl” and thought it was an original for a long time. Hadn’t even heard of the Okarche Baseball 2023 State Tournament shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this Van Morrison version before that I was getting asked to leave a bar by the bartender at closing time and asked her if I could play one more song on the jukebox before we left, and she kindly agreed. That’s what I put on. We ended up getting drunk with her and jumping in the lake. It was a typical case of American blind justice, and nobody was gonna look at the 27 8×10 color glossy pictures with the circles and arrows and the paragraph on the neck of each one explaining what each one was. Had someone do this at my job. Smelled more like overheating electrical. As we where discussing what to do he came up and confessed to the prank. Then we told him we had already called the FD, we hadn’t. He goes to the boss tells him whats up and he will deal with the FD when they show. We told him nah, just kidding. He has to go to the boss and re-explain.
