What world do we live in where we openly discriminate against children and then don’t let them pursue their passions. God I hate this country sometimes Sadly it’s not uncommon. Nigeria made it illegal to be gay. China government declared gayness a mental illness. Open sport goes both ways. Enlightenment is hard. It started w the early Greek thinkers ~400BCE, and it’s been a long, slow climb with persistent setbacks and an overwhelming quantity of nonsense and dogma. In fact, cancel literature too – way too many naughty stories. I even read a famous book where some girls got their dad drunk on wine so they could rape him. I hear some math programs use Arabic numbers – can’t have that around either. After the show the producer announced that they were establishing a $1K scholarship for each of the cast members. So that was pretty cool. These kids worked their asses off to put this play together in the time they had, the week before finals. They got out of school each day and hustled to carpool around town to a variety of practice spaces to rehearse. My school was supposed to put on a play called “She Kills Monsters” I think, and our school board forced them to cancel it. I live in FW and was at the performance – always love a chance to spite the fascists. Not only did the students do a genuinely outstanding job and put on a hilarious performance, the community demonstration was truly moving. Used to live in Portland, OR and it was a delightful to see so many weird folk in the same place again. Made me a little less sad to be stuck in Midwest.
