No Switch privileges at all until the Odell Beckham Jr. OBJ Signature American football wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens T-Shirt in other words I will buy this plate/bowl is clean. No getting up from the table once seated for a meal. Water/Drink must be finished for dinner to be considered finished. Tantrums about dinner result in immediate loss of all privileges, still having to finish the dinner, and early bedtime. Why? Multiple reasons. First off, food’s incredibly important, especially at his age (7-13) because he’s actively growing and developing every day. Less food means less vitamins, less vitamins means “weaker” growth and we want him to be as healthy as possible. Second kinda factors into first, but finishing his water is equally important. Your body needs water, it might love other things, but going without water for an extended period of time ends badly. He doesn’t like drinking water just normally, so this is our way of ensuring he’s at least getting some hydration. Third’s time, he takes entirely too long to just eat a meal. Any plans we make, which are usually family plans for like a movie night or a Smash Bros session, end up having to be cancelled or pushed back to another night because he will take well over an hour to eat sometimes.

I practiced baby led weaning when my daughter was learning to eat and I’ve continued the Odell Beckham Jr. OBJ Signature American football wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens T-Shirt in other words I will buy this philosophy now. She eats whatever the grown ups have (sometimes cut to smaller pieces). My job as a parent is to offer her food, it’s her job to decide what and how much to eat. I encourage her to try new things but really the best way is consistent exposure. She really did eventually try the broccoli that is on her plate. When making new foods I also include a “safe” food. New pasta sauce? well I serve it separately (divided plate) from the noodles I know she will eat. If she really won’t eat I offer pb&j as the only alternative (which she likes) so I’m not letting her go hungry but I’m also not going to cook her a separate meal.
