As a left leaning Democrat, I see centrism as another word for neoliberalism, a set of policy positions that support a foreign policy based on the the projection of US military power around the globe, and economic policy that puts the interests of corporations over the interests of workers and communities. Decades of neoliberalism have seen Democratic leaders paying lip service to democratic ideals while consistently supporting policies that have moved the US sharply to the right. From that perspective, which is a perspective based on decades of disappointment as a Democratic voter, I oppose centrism. Because a lot of people who claim to be centrists are actually just fence-sitters who are scared to hold strong opinions. Looking into both sides and taking the best from both is completely different from not having any convictions and just going “idk man, both sides have a point”

Because having strong and unmoving opinions on very debatable topics isn’t necessarily a good thing.
