So that means OP’s comment with 53 upvotes would mean a group of 3 or more people selling weed would count, and as such should be locked up for 7 years+ with no chance of parole? Even if they were entirely nonviolent? Queensland brought in VLAD laws in like 2015 maybe which were deemed excessively harsh, and they were similar with groups of 3 or more deemed a gang and members or associates of gangs who committed serious crimes would have an extra 15-25 years added to their sentence, with the option to have this extra time removed if info was given on their organisation. I think they only convicted like 2 people. Excessive but still far better than mandatory minimum sentencing (SoD intensifies). They were scrapped and replaced with the QLD Bikie Laws/Anti-Consorting Laws/QLD gang laws (all the same thing they just get called whatever) which are similar but without the extra time.

We should carry on downgrading violent criminally organised crime to home detention wherever possible. That’s a false dichotomy. We have other options and it’s important to figure out what won’t work so we can try and find things that might work. But no-one (political parties) seems to be trying much of anything at all. Meanwhile perpetrators of horrific violent crimes go as good as unpunished. People are frustrated, and rightly so. I totally agree that people have every reason to feel frustrated. I don’t believe the political parties are doing nothing, rather I think the problem is very complex and even things like cultural reports, which were supposed to make sentences fairer, have backfired. People are frustrated, but we mustn’t allow frustrated people to pass terribly thought out populist policies that will make the gang violence problem worse over the course of the coming decades. Wow, I did not expect this to be downvoted into oblivion so quickly. Someone really does not want this to be seen.
