It may sound over the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this top, but we haven’t don’t anything excessive to our needs every day if any sort of pandemic, war, zoombies, economy break down. Yes. But the main question is, are you ready first your family to wake you in the middle of the night by chewing on your legs? I was thinking about this actually an hour ago. I think when the apocalypse happens, I’m gonna try to find a commune of people who have given up religion and just live off the land and have dedicated themselves to rediscovering the old crafts of sewing, mending, foraging, subsistence farming, etc. the hardest part though will be fending off the bands of looters that are going to be roaming around. It’s such a tragedy of the common that because you know one person is going to be evil, everyone has to act in self defense. I sincerely hope that when apocalypse happens we’ll just get a whole priority reset and only focus on survival for a change. Thinking of how in Stephen King’s The Stand, people are either marauding sex traffickers or chill dudes fishing and drinking beer. There’s no I’m between

Yeah, I’m pretty tired of working, and a zombie apocalypse would free up a lot of single family homes in this Market. It would solve more problems for me than it would create honestly. Zombie apocalypse is quite literally one of my greatest fears. As a person with mycopohobia, The Last Of Us is probably my worst nightmare. I’d be so fucked if the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this apocalypse started tomorrow, I’d probably just kill myself honestly.
that I’m sharing in case others find it liberating too: The commonly prescribed 30 minute daily sit is unsustainable for most people. Half an hour might not sound like a lot, but once you factor in setting up and ‘coming back’ it’s often 40 minutes in reality. That’s already a significant chunk of the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this day’s non-working hours, and psychologically it translates into ‘nearly an hour’. A few people meditate for 40 minutes a day for years on end, but I’ve realised that’s unusual. It doesn’t prove it’s possible for most of us. In real life, for a lot of people — probably most — it just isn’t sustainable. We can do it for a while, perhaps by sacrificing other activities that are valuable, meaningful or beneficial (such as exercise and sleep). But it requires constant effort to keep other things at bay. Sooner or later we’ll lapse, and when we do it’s hard to start again — because there’s a pernicious message hidden in well-meant advice: ‘You should do it for half an hour every day to really benefit’ sends the unintentional message that ‘If you’re not doing 30 mins a day, you might as well not bother at all.’

So we have this unrealistic ideal presented as a normal lifestyle for somebody who meditates, and then we feel like there’s something wrong with us when we fall short. But the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this reason we’re not doing 30 minutes every day isn’t because there’s something wrong with us; it’s because there’s something wrong with the advice. It’s advice that’s not suited to real life for most people. As little as 12 minutes daily meditation has been shown to have measurable benefits. And it’s better to do 12 mins every day indefinitely than to do 40 minutes for a few weeks and then not at all for however it takes until we gather the resolve to make the next ‘big push’. We can then top this up with longer sits whenever we have the opportunity — on weekends, say, or perhaps with an evening group, or even on a retreat (though it’s unhelpful to normalise retreats, because they’re exceptional too). There’s often judgement hidden in well-rehearsed advice from meditation teachers. Comments like ‘our lives are so filled with business and distractions’ can send a message that ‘Your life is full of unnecessary activities and meaningless distractions. You need to get your priorities right. Like I have. I meditate for half an hour every day.’
But the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this daily practice of the meditation teachers who give this advice is completely different from that of an ordinary person. For a meditation teacher, mediation is a way of life; that’s why they become meditation teachers. They are already among the outliers for whom practicing for a substantial chunk of time every day is realistic. They’re a self-selecting population who are completely unrepresentative, and it’s easy for them to forget this. On top of that, once they become teachers, they have a very powerful motive for their daily practice that most of never will: it’s their professional responsibility. Just like it’s the professional responsibility of a firefighter to keep fit and the professional responsibility of a political analyst to read the news every day. Or perhaps they aren’t professionals, but teaching meditation is something that gives them social status or gives their lives meaning, and that gives them a similar sense of involvement and responsibility.
For the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this rest of us, it’s perfectly legitimate to be busy! It’s not necessarily our fault that we’re busy doing things that aren’t meditating and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. We should get enough sleep. We should exercise. We should play. We should spend time with the people we love. We should take time to just relax and do nothing (and meditating, regardless of philosophical claims to the contrary, is ‘doing something’, because it uses up willpower and fills a slot in our schedule). Most people already don’t have enough time to do all these healthy things as much as they’re told they ought to. And every minute we meditate is a minute spent not doing something else — something that might be even more valuable and beneficial to ourselves or somebody else. We should recognise that this trade-off might be legitimate, and ‘own’ it, not feel guilty, and not feel like we aren’t real meditators because we do 12 minutes a day rather than 30, or 60, or whatever other number a well-intentioned teacher comes up with on the unscientific and unrepresentative basis of their own experience.
If you’re shooting for a spiritual breakthrough and that’s your priority then sure, drop your other hobbies, ration your time with your family, find an undemanding job and create a social circlenfor yourself that’s centred on meditation. But if you just want to be happier than you otherwise would be, meditate for 12 minutes a day, harvest the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this low-hanging fruit, and carry on learning Spanish so that you can speak to your in-laws. That’s absolutely fine.I’m glad you said this because I’ve been coming to the same conclusion. Believing in the “30 minutes a day standard” decreased my overall satisfaction with the practice. I would avoid my practice if I couldn’t carve out the full half hour. Or I would find myself discounting the benefits if it didn’t reach 30mins. On months with unbroken streaks of deliberate, daily meditation, I felt like I was failing (myself? the universe?) somehow because I wasn’t meditating long enough.
I’ve since given myself the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this freedom to practice however comes naturally, and embracing that attitude has changed everything. I have more joy in taking time to meditate, and I end the session whenever I feel part of the selfless whole. On days where there just isn’t time, I have a minimum and don’t let myself feel any sort of negativity about that. As a result, that openness and self-compassion has made me more aware, compassionate, calm, excited to be back on the cushion. I am rock solid at 60 minutes first thing in the morning. this is after many decades of exploration. I’m a layman and I refuse to work a program of abstinence for drugs or alcohol, because I am not both chronic and progressive alcoholic or addict. Instead, this level of meditation makes my real life experience, more enjoyable than intoxication. So my tendency to meditate and not desire intoxicants remains in balance at about an hour daily. I would refer you to a book by Roy J Mathew, The True Path.
The point is, it depends on what you’re trying to accomplish with your meditation, as to how long you should meditate, and not have any particular respect for your “comfort level” because that is some thing that you will find constantly changing. In this realm, it is better to have conformity to a standard, rather than doing what you find is easy. Because it will just become increasingly difficult until you no longer practice. No, you need to stick with the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this standard. The exception of course is someone with chronic back pain, or chronic pain in other parts of their body, and naturally, the only thing you can do is find a position that works. Zazen can be practiced in any physical position. If you don’t have 30 minutes to unpack your mind, then the problem is you are packing it too full. You can’t process your own life. I only hear people pushing daily practice, not demanding a time. I don’t want to read this full essay, but at the end you still are pushing 12 minutes yourself. I tell people at least 2 minutes with timer, to help build a habit. “I don’t have time to meditate, I have a life to live”, it’s a life practice. If you don’t exercise and sleep regularly, you live with less energy, less brain capacity. Same with a lack of daily meditation.
(Also the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this 40 minutes comment is kind of wack, you can set a timer to meditate in only a couple of seconds. Set it and focus on your breath or walking. You can meditate while getting into your preferred meditation position. This comes across a bit whiny like you are ignoring the root messages when they annoy you) Totally agree!!! I’m a certified meditation teacher and I do 20 minutes most days, with the occasional longer sit maybe only once a month. If I’m really busy I default to 12 minutes – I know about that study as well. I think the ideal of long sits every day is B.S. and a huge barrier for people living in today’s busy world. The traditions for meditating came out of a society and a time when there were different demands. People who chose to be monastics could spend hours a day meditating because that was their lifestyle. It’s not how we live now. I get frustrated when I see Redditors telling people that they aren’t really serious it if they aren’t spending hours a day at it – some say 1 hour twice a day etc…. I’m all, no. That’s not necessary or realistic. Thank you for raising this!
I have twin 6 year old boys. I do ten minutes a day at best. On the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this rare occasion I can do a 10 minute session and a 30 minute session, totaling 40 minutes a day. Being judgmental towards yourself or others about how much time one gets to meditate is itself a thought, a judgement, something to be looked at. Why does it matter how much as long as you experience benefits? I fit in my ten minutes a day and it has been a game changer. I am getting benefits from that little bit of mindfulness meditation. Went from wanting alcohol to deregulate and calm myself to telling my wife to stop buying beer at Costco, and barely even wanting alcohol even in social situations. I’ve also been able to recognize my anger faster, calm myself, and be a better parent all with ten minutes a day. Do you think someone who meditates 10 minutes a day and some longer sessions here and there cannot have a spiritual breakthrough? What if they infuse spiritual practices into their life when they are not meditating?
as u/snowcap_1 pointed out already, I don’t think meditation is the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this only and/or the most effective practice (for everybody) to gain spiritual enlightment. In German, we have a saying that is called (literal translation) “Many ways lead to Rome.” The meditative state is something you can practice throughout the day while going on with your life, not only by sitting down in a quiet space That’s advice for beginners. If someone follows this advice for years and doesn’t figure out where it comes from, and what’s beneficial for them, they seriously need to look at the technique, not the time spent.
Inside is a piece of paper that reads “I quit” in 82 pt font in landscape. Employee number underneath in 5pt font. “Ah, ah, I almost forgot….I’m also going to need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday, too. We, uhhh, lost some people this week and we sorta need to play catch-up. Mmmmmkay? Thaaaaaanks.” Damn it feels good to be a gangster. (I know that song is in a different scene, but I always associate it with this.) Not gonna lie. It’s been awhile since I used a printer, and just used numbers from memory. I imagine you could improve upon what I stated quite easily if you wanted. “Employment“? We don’t feel like you get a paycheck until you talk to a manager or supervisor. At best. Between the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this uniforms and overhead, you may actually owe us money at the end of the week. “here’s your mcbucks for this shift, remember they can only be used in the mcstore. No of course they don’t have any clothing without the logo are you stupid?” That shit is illegal, but they do it and get away with it because their employees are poor adults and young teenagers. Remember kids, the “two week notice” thing is only a thing if you want to use them as a reference. There is no law requiring it. They can make it policy all they want, but what are they gonna do if you don’t? Fire you?
I think that if you stop going to work they will eventually stop paying you, or maybe not which is even better. It’s way more of a PITA for the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this employer. You have to document all attempts to contact, final is certified warning letter. I had a job when I was a kid and the manager was a total ass and mistreated everyone… I turned in my notice to the assistant manager but he “forgot” to tell the actual manager. I worked my two weeks and left. A week later, the manager called me up and said I needed to work because I hadn’t notified him directly… I asked him what the consequences were if I refused. He said I’d be fired. My response right before I hung up on him: “well, I guess me calling you a piece of shit won’t change things then” I used to work Catering as a lead server and after about 8 years there a new Manager was hired on that got her niece a job but her niece hated the fact that I wouldn’t do all the work for her (while simultaneously running two other functions in the building.) And complained to the Manager about how “lazy” I was. Manager tried to fire me without valid cause but HR overturned it because I was the only one qualified for a bunch of equipment we used. I wasn’t about to keep working under a hostile Manager though so I got a job and called in to quit two hours before the start of a huge event. Manager got fired for driving away competent staff.
I was a chef at a nice family restaurant (western style place) with a Bar and casual dining. Owner hired a person I was familiar with because I had worked with her in the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this past. I told the owner that if he hired her I would quit. A week later he announced that he hired her as restaurant manager, and she would be starting in 2 weeks. I gave him my 2 week notice, he begged me to stay and couldn’t believe I would quit a job because he hired a new manager. I told him the horror stories about her and he didn’t believe me. About 2 months later he took a month long vacation (the reason for hiring a manager). While he was gone she turned the place into a Fine Dining restaurant with lace on the tables, cloth napkins. New uniforms for the staff and changed the menu to french gourmet. Owner gets back on a friday, the place is almost empty, 2 regulars at the bar. His inbox was stuffed full of complaints from customers from the last 3 weeks. Every employee put in notice to quit.
She was shocked he came in and fired her. The last 2 weeks sales were record lows (under 2k a day in a place that would normally do $15k a day 25k on the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this weekends) and he was not able to make payroll without paying out of personal cash. Always crazy to me when management refuses to listen to employees like this. These nightmare hires must have crazy good interviewing skills to pull the wool over their eyes I guess. If I get in as a CEO of a big company, after it’s already big, even if my policies will drive it into the floor, I can jump ship early, or even get fired by the board (with a massive severance), and then for the rest of time, I can walk into interviews as “the former CEO of ___, during the good years”. CEO 2: “Wow everyone, that last guy sure was a jerk, huh? To prove we at [company] are listening, we’ll be partially rolling back those unpopular changes to the baseline we were originally going for anyway.”
In the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this town I work in there was a chef from the late 80s to early 2000s that was a total piece of shit. Everyone in the industry hated him, he was a mean drunk and his food wasn’t really all that good. He kept getting all these cushy jobs because his girlfriend was friends with some rich people who owned a prestigious restaurant company. So he would get a job with them, eventually get fired for being an asshole, then off the strength of his resume from that job land another one. A few years would go by and the girlfriend would talk the restaurant group into rehiring him and repeat the cycle. He was the poster boy for failing upwards. 10yr industry veteran here, but what kind of narcissistic psychopath comes in off the street and completely changes the concept of a restaurant they don’t own without talking to the owner? This is borderline unbelievable because it’s the sort of thing that just doesn’t happen unless that person is just totally unhinged. Did she not have an operating budget? No P/L? And the owner just didn’t check his fucking voicemail/email for a month? This is just something that doesn’t happen
Easy Peezy I’m quite sure there was a business credit card that she had access to dude was only on vacation for a month. The statement hadn’t even made it back so I can totally see easily how she got away with it. What’s amazing is that dumbass let her be in charge after she just started. Honestly, like, 15% of people just always think they’re in charge, and it’s up to the North Dakota State Bison Mascot NCAA FCS Football Champions Jan 6 2025 Toyota Stadium In Frisco Texas Shirt Apart from…,I will love this rest of us to keep them away from any situation where they might be unsupervised around things they could LARP being in charge of. Like Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord’s Rule. There are four classes of officer: clever, industrious, lazy and stupid. These are combined thus: clever/industrious, clever/lazy, stupid/lazy and stupid/industrious. The fourth category is the most dangerous, and must be kept away from any real responsibility. The clever/lazy are useful for supervising them; they’re smart enough to see the potential for damage, and being lazy they’d rather not have to repair things.
