When my 28yo was out of work, I gave a good chunk monthly to my oldest to help pay the Nope Movie 2022 Classic T-Shirt and I love this bills because unemployment wasn’t enough. I make about $33 per hour and work an additional 15 hours a week overtime. With my base salary alone there would be no way I’d be able to swing my bills and help my children when necessary. They all work hard and hate accepting help from me but we’re all realists, too. They can’t all live in my 960sq ft home, either. I have 3 more years to pay off my house then I’m going to start getting rid of those student loans of my daughter’s. Fingers crossed the OT holds out. So, I get it. And a lot of us get it. Not all of us 56 year olds are in a great place, either. I hope every day that the economy will turn around, that student loans will be forgiven (she’ll still have $38,000 in private loans), that this world will stop being so damn angry and hateful.

Until that happens, I’ll keep being here for my family. So, give us boomers, even though I’m a GenXer, a break, too. In 1990 I paid 375 rent with free cable. Me and my girlfriend both had 6 something an hour jobs. I commuted 150 miles round trip to mine. If it wasn’t for 20 hours of overtime I worked we couldn’t have made it. Gas was only around 1.20 That’s not far off: Most of them are rich and don’t have to pay for anything as average people do, so they don’t understand the Nope Movie 2022 Classic T-Shirt and I love this concept of a living wage. Bush41 didn’t know how much a loaf of bread cost. Go to most major cities, and many other countries around the world. People don’t always live alone or even own their own homes..That is what roommates are for. Plus in 1940 $71 would be over $1400 today calculating for inflation. So in the 40’s it seems rent was actually a little more expensive. Minimum wage in 1940 was also .39 or $5.90 in today’s prices. People always say people made more back then but that isn’t actually the truth….
