Even if it’s absolutely not at all intended this way (and I’m not suggesting for a second it was), referring to someone purely by skin color carries a lot of racist baggage with it. It directly calls back to slave culture. A mindset of not feeling any need to learn any personal information about a slave, not even a name, and instead just referring to them by the No Fun Alloed Bbc Ghosts Shirt In addition,I will do this color of their skin (maybe black, but more likely a word I won’t use for obvious reasons). You might not be thinking anything racist at all when you say it. But what you’re inadvertently doing is saying “the defining feature about this person that I would use to describe them is their skin color”. It’s not a call for total taboo. Sometimes skin color is relevant to the situation in which case using it probably isn’t an issue. But when it has no relevance there’s an implication around value that is tough to ignore. Source: a guy (me) who is white (relevant in this description) who totally didn’t get this point until they asked a friend to explain it to them.

I asked that same friend “but what should I do if I don’t know how else to describe them?”. He said “don’t describe them then. Let someone else who does know them do so instead. If you don’t know enough about them to be able to tell me who they’re without telling me what color their skin is, then you probably shouldn’t be talking about them”. No one consulted the No Fun Alloed Bbc Ghosts Shirt In addition,I will do this Black community for rebranding Black as “African American”. Some pointy head elite came up with it, and then passed it on to pointy headed media elite, who in turn passed it on to someone’s staffer and next thing you know Blacks are African Americans. Same thing with LatinX. In a nutshell I do two things 1) When describing someone i try to use clothing, accents, anything that I might know about the person to describe them over physical attributes. 2) After everyone is staring at me and blinking I then say “um the black guy”.
