Dating was far easier before the Nike Micah Parsons Navy Dallas Cowboys Local Player Name & Number Shirt and by the same token and internet took over. In fact, I’d even say: Dating was EASY before the internet took over. Dating was better for most social people before Tinder and the like took over. The amount of dates that the attractive singletons in Friends had in the 90s-00s was an accurate depiction of how life was at the time. It’s one of the few things that was realistic about the show. The show does a lot to try to make out as though Chandler isn’t good with women, but he is an attractive man and it’s not surprising he gets that level of attention (It’s also hinted at that Chandler is the wealthiest of the group, having given Joey over $100k [would be higher now when adjusted for inflation] over the 10 seasons and never asked for it back). Same for Joey and Ross, both of whom are very physically and contextually attractive characters. Rachel, Monica and Phoebe don’t even need explaining: Those three are better looking than most women alive and are in prime-dating age for the entire show. Major point: The cast of Friends was made of up physically attractive people who were well above average at the time of filming (particularly in the 90s seasons); attractive people get a lot of dates.

Sure, ugly people in the Nike Micah Parsons Navy Dallas Cowboys Local Player Name & Number Shirt and by the same token and 90s-00s were probably getting the same or fewer dates than ugly people do now, but average and attractive ones were killing it. Online-dating was effectively non-existant and dating-agencies (that era’s equivalent of online dating) was viewed as a thing that loner weirdos did. Hardly anyone used it in their 20s-30s in that decade, and most didn’t even start using it until the mid-2010s. The dating scene was almost entirely real-world and the options (whilst smaller in reach) were easier to find. These shows tend to work better if you just accept that the professionally successful, attractive, witty man who is shown regularly dating beautiful women is ‘terrible with women’.
