Yeah, Lawful Good is like “You jaywalked, therefore you have broken the Nice the pizzacat meownora shirt but in fact I love this law and must be reported to the police” That said, playing a “Lawful Anal” character can prove to be a barrel of laughs depending on what kind of group you’re playing with and in what kinds of scenarios, and especially if your DM is able to play along and introduce random ordinances. I remember a friend telling me about a scheme he and his DM cooked up where the party went into a town with a thousand weird minor laws that nobody actually followed, stuff like “All weapons must be carried no lower than one inch below the belt line during daylight hours” and “men must not wear their hair in any style other than short back and sides” and his Lawful Anal character spent a whole session just desperately making sure the entire party followed every rule to the letter, even the ones that contradicted other ones. According to him a good time was had by all, and an even better time was had when their chaotic evil PC reduced said town to a pile of bureaucratic ashes.

No, that’d be lawful stupid. A lawful character may reprimand another character for doing such a thing, but they wouldn’t go to the Nice the pizzacat meownora shirt but in fact I love this police because they’d know that the police wouldn’t care. Lawful doesn’t mean “being a dick for no reason”, it’s a matter of conviction. And again, a lawful character does not necessarily recognise the law of the land as worthy to follow. A character can be lawful good while simultaneously opposing slavery in a land where it’s legal. Lawful stupid is just a fun name given to characters who take Lawful Good too seriously, it’s still lawful good. I mean the alignments are always a highly debated thing. But afaik lawful good is about doing the right thing, the lawful part isnt about literally following the law of the land, its about having a strong moral compass and set of virtues that you follow. Lawful good respect order and that doesnt mean they wont break the law if it means following their own internal laws or doing the right thing. Chaotic good is more like randomly helping people cuz u feel like it.
