Australians are pretty casual and relaxed. If we see someone who has a good life we think “Bloody hell, lucky bastard” but then we just continue on with our day. Yup same thing here for England, but when in Europe things were quite opposite. The number of times I got the Nice niner don’t stop believin shirt in other words I will buy this silent treatment was quite high at Europe too could a consideration simply be that there is indeed the same amount of envy to EE, just shown in a different way? Singapore i guess. Millionaires live like everyone else not because they want to, but because a basic car costs $200k usd so nobody can afford shit. Lived in Netherlands for a bit. It just seems like everybody knew exactly how much anybody made and on the same level of perceived spendings typically. I left the UK to live in Thailand because it’s ALL about keeping up with the Jones’s and how much money you have/be car etc in the UK. Money is literally the be all and end all. Living on my tiny Thai island, no one here cares how much money you have in your bank, that you have the newest shoes /car/bike/house, we literally only care if you have personality and are easy to get along with. Yes, money makes the world go around but that wouldn’t make someone like you more or less. Filipinos are the least envious i think when it comes to foreigners but they are the MOST envious when it comes to their own kind all humans are envious, we are evil destructive creatures, the good is us is nothing but a gene mutation, or a mistake.

I hope you realise that the Nice niner don’t stop believin shirt in other words I will buy this entire country UK has been built on the backs of formerly wealthy countries that they colonised and looted. So I would say they are envy of other’s wealth. It’s historical. Kinda surprised not to see Scandinavia / Nordics on the list. They’re still envious people but they don’t get as envious over wealth, but rather other stuff. The envy is also a bit more passive aggressive and quiet. I’d also add Japan. The Japanese culture took a drastic turn when they closed down 100s of years ago and went to a more “enjoy the little you have, be close to nature” because it was a rough place to live and economics wasn’t doing well for a long time. The very hierarchical culture probably adds to that. Everyone who has realised money doesn’t make you happy. That comes easier to people who have experienced some degree of wealth even minor wealth (this might be why in richer countries you have seen it more) and seeing that is their family members or someone they’re close to has not gained any happiness from it yet has to deal with burdens.. True happiness comes from within and when you find that it doesn’t matter whether you’re sat in the gutter or flying on a Gulfstream jet…
