Meanwhile, I just can’t shake the Nice hank Green I live in the present space-time continuum shirt in addition I really love this feeling that Luxx is a Chat GPT with good fashion and dance moves. Every other thing she says in her confessionals is a robotic repeat of iconic Drag Race quotes. We should stop derisively calling it “trauma porn” when people are just sharing stories about their lives. Lives have ups and downs, that’s normal. It’s not all roses, we should normalize talking about hard stuff. There’s nothing wrong with sharing that, in fact it’s crucially important that Drag Race showcases queer stories – life saving and life changing that it does There’s a difference between queens organically choosing to use the show as a platform to share their experiences and emotionally manipulating people into divulging trauma stories for TV. In interviews queens talk about how it’s an intense emotional experience and you’re encouraged to forget the cameras are rolling. You aren’t allowed to talk to your fellow contestants or bond with them (or anyone except one person on the intercom when you get back to the hotel) off-camera for weeks, while being completely isolated from your loved ones and society. It’s deliberately set up to create the most intense, emotional possible experience for our viewing pleasure. Meanwhile, contestants are real people and might have regrets or concerns about oversharing on national television, regrets they aren’t going to talk about because it looks bad. But they are asked direct personal questions by people in positions of power and I believe (could be wrong) are fed sensitive conversational topics in the workroom by production.

Of course an intelligent person like Sasha knows this. She’s picked up on the Nice hank Green I live in the present space-time continuum shirt in addition I really love this fact production/the viewer wants to hear stories. She’s talked to other queens, she’s read interviews by people like Alaska who talk about being punished for not being “vulnerable enough”, knows she wants a good reception from the fanbase, so she comes prepared and gives the viewer what they want while controlling her narrative. Essentially, yes sharing stories is important. But being coaxed into sharing yours during a life-changing career opportunity, your one chance to share your art and livelihood with the world? Extremely inappropriate. There need to be boundaries between employer and employee, artist and consumer, and calling tic tac lunches and childhood portraits “trauma porn” is a way to encapsulate these ideas.

1. Length is measured from the highest point on the collar down to the bottom hem. 2. Width is measured across the body of the shirt under the armpits, one way. 3. Sleeves are measured from center back to hem.
