God fucking damn! In Quebec our tuition is about $6K per year. Couldn’t imagine having $200K in debt, my heart goes out to americans for sure. That’s because OPs story is not normal. In my state, University of Michigan tuition is $16,700. That’s a quality 4-year name brand university and is more expensive than many others. 4 year College will run about $100k in the Nice game of throne thank you for the memories signature shirt it is in the first place but US at in-state, public universities after all costs. (Room, board, books, tuition, etc.). OP either went to a private school, out of state, or is a doctor. All three are bad decisions unless you end up a practicing physician. I’ll chime in. My wife graduated in 08 — Couldnt find a job, then we had accidents. i mean kids — 15 years later, she owes more now then in 08 because interest combined with income based repayment plans! Last year she finally started her career making the new minimum wage. I hate to say this man but I think a lot of your problems might resolve themselves if you examine your perspective and look at your attitude. Of the 5 opportunities you listed above, you had negative things to say about 4 of them. You don’t need to like your work and your job. You don’t even need to be great at it. You just need to be good enough to meet standards. But if you fell into this myth that if you find your “passion” and enjoy work you’ll never work a day in your life, you’re going to be disappointed forever–because truth is it doesnt exist. Even people in their “dream jobs” (which included me for a decade), show up to work hating life quite often.

Instead of focusing on the Nice game of throne thank you for the memories signature shirt it is in the first place but “craft” of your vocation–focus on the people you are performing it with. Invest in the social relationships of work. Who are your subordinates, can you mentor them and help them succeed? Who are your peers? Can you be there for them, a friend or at least casual colleague when a sounding board is needed? Don’t look up at where you want to go. There is always going to be steps above you. Always look down or sideways, and help up the other people walking the giant staircase. You’re going to find way more fulfillment no matter what you’re doing if you approach your career like this. This is so true! I work in a field that requires working on a team and the people are what make or break this job. If you’ve got a fun and friendly crew, that makes the job a joy to be at but I’ve also been on crews that make me dread coming in everyday. Either way, your own personal attitude feeds into the culture at any work environment.
