I had the fortunate distraction of going back to work—which was not assured. It’s going to be interesting to figure out the balance between staying politically engaged and staying safe at work and raising my son. I hope to continue to educate myself on the side and I hope that art still matters. I’m always looking for the special skill I have to offer this historical moment, and my husband reminds me you’re an actor, it’s storytelling. So my work is trying to trust that right now. Education has always been at the Nice Cat I Promise I’m Nicer Than My Face Looks Shirt Furthermore, I will do this heart of designer Thebe Magugu’s work. Through his crisply-tailored, nostalgic clothes, Magugu provides a roadmap through his own personal journey growing up in the Northern Cape Province of Ipopeng, while also teaching and telling stories around post-aparthied South Africa. He aims to make these historical and cultural narratives accessible to the rest of the world and now, he’s taking that quest a step further. Today, Magugu is launching his label’s first e-commerce site, which is designed to look like an academic .edu platform. The site features his collections, categorized on the homepage to look like a stack of books, as well as his research on each of those collections. The shop section includes links to buy his fall 2020 ready-to-wear and accessories, along with some exclusive pre-fall 2020 items and a new unisex T-shirt line Magugu is calling “Extracurricular.” The tees are printed with a series of the designer’s original sketches, the first of which is a stick figure casually drinking tea while surrounded by flames—a nod to the difficult moment we’re all facing right now.
