The entire concept of ‘not being able to trust anyone* is a you problem, not the people around. It’s simply not true, and it’s something you can work on. It’s an unhealthy coping mechanism people have to prevent being hurt again by others. But you have to trust other people. No individual or society can function without trust. Humans have evolved to trust and we need it. Otherwise it’ll break you up. Realizing this is the most important thing. And then you do something about it because the most unwise thing to do is to keep sulking and distrusting people. It’s the repetitive nature of finding that right person and it turning out to be nothing and having to start over I’ve not been a victim of betrayal. My only relationship was with a wonderful man who I still love very much but can’t be with. After we broke up, everything for me was all casual. People hurt me, but more physical than emotional. Frankly, I’ve just become paranoid as I’ve gotten older. I can’t trust people I don’t already know. So, while I may want to try dating again, I just don’t think I could possibly trust anyone enough to let them get that close to me.

I have been through this. What I realized was that my red flag meter was set differently than it should have been. I was raised in some weird weird weird circumstances and I was around some truly odd people. I had to learn to recalibrate. People suck. Yes, they do. And more of them suck than we want to admit.
