For me, intimacy is only feels intimate when I’m awake or dozing. Actually sleeping that way gets hot, limbs fall asleep, hair is in uncomfortable places, I can’t get comfortable, etc. This is me. He loves to cuddle up to me but I am sweating already with just a sheet on. Neither my wife nor myself could fall asleep unless she was snuggled into my nook / left armpit area. I always run hot and have plenty of heat to spare, and she was always cold, so it worked out wonderfully. Still trying to figure out how to sleep on my own again since she passed away. At the very least I need a pile of dogs to sleep on/with. My big dog now takes what was my wife’s favorite nook, and the little ones cram into my other nooks & crannies. My wife sleeps like she’s a large unsupervised group of young boys who just discovered fire and have an ungodly amount of firewood at their disposal. I’d rather sleep in the center of then sun than while touching a single cell of her body.

Yeah I’m more of a don’t touch me while I’m sleeping kind of guy, and she runs hot, so we’ll snuggle good night and then I need my space. I understand a lot of people have sleep apnea or something else where sleeping in the same bed as someone else is just not very feasible. We have worked different shifts for our entire marriage. At first he worked nights and I worked days so we got used to sleeping apart. Now we’re both on days but he leaves for work very early in the morning. And I don’t like waking up that early. We are fortunate to have the space to have our own rooms and this works best for us.
