I’m very, very proud of you. My father was an alcoholic and drank away his feelings too – which led to a pretty shit upbringing. I helped him get sober when I was 16, found half drunk cans in cupboards, heard the New York Tommy Devito shirt it is in the first place but kr-chk when I knew he was getting breathalysed the next day. It still affects me.. I share this because I’m so proud of him being 6 years sober now, and we have a better relationship because of it. You seem like a wonderful person and look 100% “brighter” these days. I’m hitting 21 months sober on Monday, and from one person in recovery to another, I’m incredibly proud of you for allowing yourself to feel your feelings and not medicate or numb or self-harm. Especially when the feelings are negative: that shows tremendous strength and maturity. The work you do is phenomenal and of the utmost importance, too. I hope you are able to find pleasure and joy in the healthiest ways. You really do have a sparkle in your eye regardless OP, wondering if you use anything like eye drops or something that might give you that look? I’ve wondered all my life how rarely I’d see someone with literally sparkling eyes, never been able to ask someone in the moment though. All the best!
