People read shit like this and accept it because “Why would anyone lie about that?” Simple… we live in a world where internet points are more important to people than the New York Mets Sun Burst Est 1962 Baseball shirt and by the same token and truth. Now this was a fairly innocent case, but misinformation can be poisonous specially when we live in a world where people get their information from memes. The wikipedia article on this guy even states there’s no record on what happened to him post-trial, so it seems farfetched to think anyone would bother to paint a random slave unless it’s to honor the trial. If he went off the radar after the trial though, then likely the painting isn’t related either. But yeah, misinformation sucks ass. People that lie about this shit are – in my opinion – failures on some level in that I think something in life that we all have to do is adapt to our surroundings and utilize the information we’re given to draw conclusions. Someone who is denying reality and instead selling whatever narrative they wish to sell is blatantly failing to see a world for what it is, thereby hindering their own ability to come to terms with it, thereby being an unacknowledged nuisance to society and themselves.

Detroit Institute of Arts.” A few months ago when there was a post about a cheetah, someone gave the names of the photographer, the cheetah, location, and a backstory about the photographer. That comment was very well-received. I kept wondering why my searches showed no results for the photographer… turns out, the person had fabricated every detail and passed it off as facts. The cheetah story is a minor thing, but I’m really glad that you’re drawing attention to the importance of fact-checking. The habit of blindly believing whatever we’re told needs to be broken.
