Centrism is sometimes seen as the New York Mets Autism Awareness Knowledge Power Shirt moreover I love this fence sitter position. “It’s for people who don’t want to stand for something.” Well, that depends a lot on location. Centrists in the US catch a lot of flak because the ones who identify as such generally skew pretty far to the right, ideologically speaking. Whereas those who are closer to the ideological center would generally identify as Democrats, since their policies are centrist in nature. Centrists in other parts of the world tend to catch flak because they slow down the agendas of either extreme, though the discourse isn’t generally as volatile unless there’s an active fascist movement going on. A lot of the comments here are saying that they sit on the fence about everything but are ignoring that a lot of people have strong views about things but when measured on a scale it kinda evens out. Some people are socially liberal and fiscally conservative so it is a balance. Me for example I’m fairly socially liberal but take a more neutral stance on the stuff like non binary people, and I’m not in support of people transitioning or getting surgery before they’re an adult. I have a very progressive view on renewable energy but also support oil and gas for the time being, and understand that there’s a transition that can’t be forced overnight.

People on the New York Mets Autism Awareness Knowledge Power Shirt moreover I love this left and right (not necessarily the extremes) dislike them for being a flip floppy, sometimes commiting to realpolitik over any set ideology and also often stealing ideas from either side of the debate. I feel like centrism exists under the guise of “equality” but actually just perpetuates the fucked systems we live under out of fear (?maybe not the right word) of change in quite literally any direction. In my opinion centrism acts to uphold capitalism and keep society unchanged, traditional etc. its conservatism. so thats why i would assume people who dont identify with that label don’t like it much. If you believe everything has a middle ground what do you even stand for really? You choose to support nothing and condemn nothing, whats the point in that? Being comfortably uncomfortable and doing nothing at all? Its a cop out and non stance on any issue. In most western countries identifying as a centrist means you are actually right leaning and hiding to protest yourself.
