The testing is clusterf@ck part. MANYYY pregnant ladies will have what’s called “a false positive”. Including me. Imaging you’re about to give birth to a child and some bitch ass nurse will come in instead of a doctor and say you have syphilis, give you a judgmental look and tell you to talk to your husband and walk out and not once mention this “false positive”. So now, you’re in tear s and looking at your husband like wtf we’re getting a divorce. But after the initial shock wears off you call your friend who is MD at Cedars Sinai and ask him wtf the nurse is talking about? Come to find out.. the initial test they do doesn’t only test for syphilis but a test for antibodies that are reactive to possible syphilis and like 3-4 other things including HSV-1. HSV-1 is a fcking cold sore. So if you ever had a cold sore your ass will be “positive” for “syphilis”. After hearing this, I told them to send my blood work and actually test it for syphilis and not my antibodies. Which in my opinion should be done this way first and not test the antibodies first. But wtf do I know right?! In the meantime, the hospital wanted to give my baby a penicillin shot without actually having the test results back. I called my Obgyn back in to ask her wtf was happening and she is like no, no, you have always been negative, this makes no sense, so she called the penicillin guard dogs down. I got my actual blood test results after 4 days (these mfks talking about its an emergency you have syphis but it will take us 4 days to get the ACTUAL results to confirm it). After I got my negative test results back I went full WW3 on their incompetent asses. I can guarantee you that this testing issue is part of this stupid statistic, because they just rolled it out and none of them are doing this in appropriate steps and relying in that initial antibodies screen.
