Basically I’ll help studios define all the monetization for their game, and design two years of live operations strategies for them. Usually will coach their current game designers how to better monetize their products while I’m there. Thing is to hire someone full time in that roll it’s well into the six figures, so it’s more economical for studios to hire me to do it in a month and just train current designers how to maintain/adjust a strategy. Depends on the game, but for mobile titles very often yes. Gacha systems, loot boxes, events, season passes. All the things everyone likes to get angry about.

Because people don’t want to be nickled and dimed to engage in entertainment. Games as a service is doing no end of damage to the Never underestimate an old man who listens to Pj Harvey shirt But I will love this industry. It’s fine for free to play games but now we are seeing battle passes and monetization of in game currency in full price games. Devs remove portions of games that are ready at launch and often is included in the full game and they unlock it when you purchase “DLC”. DLC that is already in the software. It’s anti-consumer and greedy. I didn’t invent this, I just design it. I understand what your saying but at the same time video games are the most profitable they have been. I get that people online are very loud against it, but you have to realize that the majority of people who play games on their phones, or more casually, do not have issues with this. They also are the vast majority of people who play games. People being ok with being screwed won’t sway my opinion. It’s shady and predatory. Not to mention the bad habits it introduces to children. Profit motive won’t sway me either. Greed is a terrible vice. Games were profitable before all this nonsense. I really don’t care about making rich people richer.
