If Zuck wanted it to exist he would create some independent governing body that creates the metaverse so its not such an obvious data collection dump for facebook. I get why. It’s the only future they have. Facebook is 100% irrelevant for anyone under 30. Instagram is getting its ass handed to it by Tik Tok. They need a develop a new technology platform and own everything in it especially ecommerce and search. Hence Oculus. Now whether or not that works is another story. But I get why he’s obsessing over it. It’s existential. The metaverse is never going to happen, it requires people to not only embrace and accept virtual reality as a primary method of media consumption, also requiring virtual reality to become far beyond greater than what it’s capable of today, but it also needs to be embraced by the majority as a suppliment and/or near replacement for daily life, and sorry to say but it just won’t happen, VR is a fad nothing more, Augmented Reality has its use cases and in my personal opinion is far more likely to become the norm in the future through tech like connected glasses (ala google glass) and such. But the metaverse as the Zuck describes it, is doomed to be a failed idea.
