He outlines good strategies for your marriage in that crucial (and very hard!) first year of becoming parents. His other marriage books are also great. What helped us was knowing that it is a limited time that the baby is small and that all your energy goes in to taking care of him/her. For us it was about 9 months to a year. Then, when baby gets a bit bigger we found it really important that each of us gets time for ourselves for hobbies and friends and that we get time together without baby. I go to yoga twice a week and meet friends maybe once a month and my husband has time on the weekends to do things he wants to. My inlaws are great and have had our daughter over night before and we went to a wedding and stayed in a hotel and at the end of the month we are going to a different city with friends and she is staying with them again. I love her so much but it’s nice to do things without having to take care of a little one sometimes.
