Over on the Never Forget Essential T-Shirt besides I will buy this Bowery, Short Stories is busy pandemic-pivoting. Since opening in 2019, it blew up as a late night hotspot for twenty-somethings looking to dance in Levi 501s and slim-fitted crop tops. But as partner Pir Granoff puts it, “the party, party, disco-ball vibe isn’t coming back anytime soon.” Instead, they want to be a dining destination. In July, they hired Jeanne Jordan, a rising star chef formerly of Mas Farmhouse, to revamp their menu with creative comfort food: think deviled eggs with XO sauce, shrimp burgers, roasted purple sweet potato with toasted milk and Oatly vinaigrette.

When they reopen indoor dining, here’s how they want to do it: “Recently, we’ve all had these incredible small dinners at friend’s homes. Why not recreate a similar vibe here by offering private dinners for 15-person groups? Why not make a really cool, safe space for someone in a way you can’t really do elsewhere…because people are hesitant to hang out with strangers?” says co-partner Ashwin Deshmukh.
