It’s frustrating when literally all week your kid can’t get enough of corn dogs, and then you make them for lunch one day and they react like you put live bugs on their plate. Their bodies grow at a weird pace too, so your kid that was ravenous and ate full adult portions at 3 meals might eat a handful of goldfish crackers as his entire diet for the Mychemicalromance Emo Bells Emo Bells Gerard All The Way Shirt moreover I love this next day. Plus, they get distracted, forget to eat, find everything else more interesting, spend 3 hours eating 2 bites of safe food, and parents are human too. It’s frustrating needing to be somewhere, but you’re stuck waiting for your child who is goofing off and has taken the past hour to each half a peanut butter sandwich and nothing you do will get him to just sit and take a few bites. Or all the wasted food trying to guess how hungry your kid is and if they’re going to finish their food they are insisting they want or take one bite and decide they’re done.

Again, not condoning abuse!! I am not a “clean your plate” enforcer, I am not going to force my kid to choke down food they hate, or insist whatever meal they’re struggling with “has to be the Mychemicalromance Emo Bells Emo Bells Gerard All The Way Shirt moreover I love this next thing they eat”. But also, sometimes these things are just hard and there’s not a simple, magical solution. It’s a whole lot easier to backseat parent and judge why parents aren’t perfect than it is to actually parent day in and day out. I literally coach parents and deal with difficult behaviors with children for my job, and the most important skill there is having compassion for both the kids and the parents, because every kid is wildly different and the snippet you see is often very rarely the reality of day to day life.
