Myself and my partner are pretty OCD when it comes to cleanliness but after a recent inspection, a month late, ours tried to cite carpet stains and demand we sort it and pay for costs, nothing about how much better the My Son Is Super Awesome And I An The Lucky One Mother T-Shirt moreover I love this place looks since we moved in. Was happy to send her pictures of the stains, taken before we moved in, and her response was to then cite overgrown hedges, which we also aren’t responsible for under tenancy law. She doesn’t even know the legalities and that’s her one fucking job. Tl;dr: ALWAYS take photos of any damage, carpet stains, wall marks, etc before you move in and, ideally, look to form a direct relationship with the landlord if they are agreeable. the My Son Is Super Awesome And I An The Lucky One Mother T-Shirt moreover I love this building is quite old but its solid framework unfortanely gutters have had to be replaced, along with a lot of paint and carpet work. I dont feel sorry for my landlord but I understand why my rent is going up, itll still be below market rate but not a lot below anymore You rent the house with the expectation that the house is not faulty. You should not pay more for repairs that bring the house to a minimum standard. its more things going wrong since ive lived here then they were wrong to begin with, I think its safe to say that theres nearly been more in repairs then ive paid in rent in the years ive lived here well im sure they could just kick me out and demo it and sell the land at a profit but thats no one being homed right? They could, I’m just saying maintenance costs aren’t really something that should increase rent, they are just protecting their investment Let’s say they spend 100k on maintenance and charge you an extra 100 dollars a week, that extra rent is effectively extra profit The thing is, gutters, paint, carpet, all of these things deteriorate with time and use, that should not be your fault or problem. Now, holes in the wall, massive stains that you made, any actual immediate damage caused by you? Yeah, you should have to pay for that. But general wear and tear? They’re trying to sell a 1990 corolla for 2023 money.
