I’m currently in Portugal. I greet in Portuguese and they immediately know I’m not native and everyone so far has replied with Hi! and then I ask in English. Tourism is PREVALENT. Tourists usually stay in tourist areas and are surrounded by English speakers or others who are able to understand English and send you to someone who knows it. Most of the MVPIID Joel Embiid shirt Besides,I will do this time, read the room. I typically ask “may I speak English?” I feel less rude asking that question, and it typically has a positive effect. Although I try to say the appropriate greeting in the local language first. *This is mostly for places where English is commonly spoken. For example, when I was stranded at a train station in a random part of Germany, I did ask if the staff member spoke English, in German.

Welp I’ve been to Paris and Italy and just spoke in English to everyone immediately and they all (except one person at a small restaurant in Palermo Italy) all spoke it back. It was quite easy and presumptuous of me but hey. I just speak in English. If they don’t understand my question, then we’ve established they don’t speak English. Honestly I say “hello” in the MVPIID Joel Embiid shirt Besides,I will do this local language and then if I don’t know anything else I start speaking in English. If they look like they understand, great, if not it’s either gestures-and-random-words time or just “sorry!” in the local language. I’ve never really had a big problem with this, people have not seemed offended either way. We’re just trying to communicate. I also don’t worry about it because people who don’t speak English come up to me in my city and ask for directions as well, and I’ve given people multi step train directions with not much English involved. It’s not a moral failing to not the language of a random country where you don’t live and to be there.
