It’s becoming less and less regular. It’s mostly boomers who I’ve ever seen actually do it gen x and millennial parents know how hard it is out there now. I’m early millennial and I was told by my mom that I would be kicked out at 18 but it was a little more complicated in reality. I was in school so she let me live in a trailer in the Montana State Tennis Shirt it is in the first place but yard. Most of my friends were out at 18 either to college or jobs. I think its because when boomers came of age they were all able to get an apartment and a car while paying tuition with a part time job and they think that is still how it works. The only kids I know who were out at 18, were kids who needed to see what life is really all about. Fucking off all of the time, getting into trouble, zero respect for just about everyone. Perfect time to go, I was one of them, it was the best thing for me. Speaking as an American I don’t know anyone who was kicked out at 18. Most of us stay at home at least until we finish college and then move out. I was 22 when I moved out, then I moved back home for like 7 months during 2020 when my roommate didn’t want to renew the lease and I yearned for a backyard. Then again for 3 months exactly a year later when my next lease expires and I was in contact for my own apartment. Now at 31, I am a homeowner so I probably won’t have to live with them again, but worse things could happen and they feel that way too.

Typically if someone is kicked out right at 18 its either for financial or behavioral reasons. They are legally an adult so they can go live on their own… if they are getting in to trouble or causing problems sometime a parent may tell them they have to leave. On the Montana State Tennis Shirt it is in the first place but other side, if if a family is poor they can receive a certain amount social benefits because they have a kid. Once the kid is 18 and a legal adult they may loose some of those benefits and not be able to care for the kid without them and tell them to go out on their own. In some cases if a kid is 18 and has a job it can take away benefits from a parent because more income is coming into the household. Some of the people that do this do so because any food stamp/welfare benefits and child support they might be getting on behalf of the kid vanish the day they turn 18. Since they’re poor enough as it is, having another person to feed and shelter is too much of a burden. I want to think it’s simply because they can’t afford to do anything else but some people are just terrible parents. At least let them finish high school ffs. Don’t be having kids in this economy. I can’t speak for everyone’s situation, I wasn’t “kicked out” in the strictest sense, but I was pretty much pushed toward the door. I was raised by legal guardians, not bio parents, who were strict and religious. When I turned 18, they didn’t kick me out right away, but made it clear that I would have to get a job and immediately start paying for all of my bills/expenses (food, phone, etc.). It seemed really dumb to me to be paying my own way in the world AND still have to abide by extremely strict, religion based house rules, so I found a roommate and apartment to rent as soon as I could.
